Unity Health Toronto is inviting applications for an Active Staff position in the Division of Oncology/Hematology at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre site in Toronto.
St. Joseph’s Health Centre is a key site within Unity Health Toronto, serving a culturally and economically diverse population of approximately 530,000. The hospital is a 400-bed facility that employs around 2,500 staff and includes 500 credentialed physicians. Recently, the hospital received a $1 billion investment from the Province of Ontario to build a state-of-the-art patient tower. The Department of Medicine at St. Joseph’s Health Centre includes over 130 physicians across 13 divisions, committed to clinical care, education, and hospital leadership. The Department supports a comprehensive patient care experience, from acute to post-acute care.
The Opportunity:
The successful candidate will join a team of two full-time and one part-time hematologists, along with three full-time and one part-time medical oncologists. The selected candidate will have access to outpatient clinic time at the hospital for consultations, procedures, phlebotomy, transfusions, and infusions. They will also provide inpatient hematology consultations and cross-coverage for both benign and malignant hematology inpatients, rotating with our current hematologists. A hematology/oncology hospitalist provides MRP coverage on both weekdays and weekends.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in benign hematology practice. Subspecialty training, an interest in education, and/or quality improvement would be considered assets but are not required. Compensation will be through OHIP billings (fee-for-service), with an estimated annual remuneration ranging from $150,000 to $250,000. The successful candidate must possess exemplary clinical skills and professionalism, with evidence of excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills. The role will also involve supporting the Division of Hematology/Oncology in teaching medical students and residents.
The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional clinical skills and professionalism, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team. There are ample opportunities for involvement in quality improvement initiatives, medical education, and clinical trials. Applicants must be proficient in English and eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or higher. Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, along with licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, is required. Candidates must also hold Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage or an equivalent in good standing.
