Hematologist Full Time Position (Benign Hematology)

Southlake Regional Health Centre

Newmarket, ON

A hospital-based benign hematology position will be open at Southlake from July 2024.

Southlake is a large 500+ bed full-service community hospital with regional programs including cardiovascular medicine and surgery, thoracic surgery, and cancer care.

This is a permanent hospital-based position with clinics run through the ambulatory day care medicine area of the hospital. The clinics include general hematology referrals and thrombosis/hemostasis. These clinics are fully supported with nursing and admin staff.

There are presently 3 other hematologists who have a mixed benign/malignant hematology practice and one thrombosis fellowship trained general internist doing thrombosis. There are an additional 4 hematologists working primarily at the Stronach Cancer Centre; this is a vibrant collegial group which strives for clinical excellence.

There is potential to have up to a maximum of 6-7 half day clinics based on candidate interest; a minimum of 3 half day clinics is expected.   Participation in the hospital on-call schedule will be shared equitably with some options for increased day call if desired. There are opportunities for participation in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research through the clinical trials program if interested.

This position offers a great work life balance and can potentially be part time as noted above with limited after hours/weekend coverage expected.

The hospital has a large internist/hospitalist support system that provides primary care for all inpatients. A collaborative model of care is expected/required of consulting physicians. All subspecialties are well represented including infectious disease, respirology, and ICU. Pathology and laboratory support is available.

Full administrative and office support will be provided.

We are a collaborative and supportive group looking forward to the addition of another member to our team.

All enquiries can be made directly to Dr. Jai Jayakar, Head, Division of Hematology, at jjayakar@southlake.ca.

This position will be available from July 1, 2024, and will be offered to the appropriate candidate.

We thank everyone for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
