The Department of Oncology at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences are recruiting an Academic Hematologist specializing in malignant blood disorders with a primary focus in acute leukemia and myeloid disorders. Successful candidates will hold a full-time academic appointment in the Division of Malignant Hematology, Department of Oncology, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University.

The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre is a large academic teaching hospital that serves the Hamilton-Niagara-Haldimand-Brant region. The Division of Malignant Hematology consists of 19 full-time hematologists located at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre who are engaged in clinical practice, education and research. The Division is responsible for treating malignant blood diseases and providing autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and CAR-T cell therapy to the central-west region of Ontario and beyond.
As an academic hematologist, the successful applicant is expected to contribute to clinical service, research and educational activities. They will have prior expertise and focus in the treatment of acute leukemia and myeloid disorders and also be knowledgeable in other areas of malignant hematology. Experience in cellular therapy and transplantation is an asset. Hematology staff see outpatients in the Juravinski Cancer Centre and rotate as ward attending on the inpatient service in the Juravinski Hospital, alongside nurse practitioners, hematology residents and fellows and other trainees. The attending rotation also includes general hematology consultations for the hospital.
The Juravinski Cancer Centre has a large Clinical Trials Department contributing to Phase 1 to 3 clinical trials through the Canadian Clinical Trials Group, the Ontario Clinical Oncology Group, industry-sponsored trials and investigator-initiated clinical trials. Multiple opportunities exist for clinical, health services and translational research. The academic Department of Oncology is closely aligned with the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute, working collaboratively to provide access to clinical, translational and health services researchers.
Candidates are expected to possess the following:
- Certificate of registration for a valid license to practice in the province of Ontario issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Certification, or eligible for certification, in Hematology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- Membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association, or equivalent
Additional fellowship training and advanced degrees are advantageous. Additional described interests in the areas of quality improvement, educational scholarship, research or administration will be favorably considered. Academic rank and appointment category will be commensurate with training and experience.
