Oncology Nursing Day – Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology / Association canadienne des infirmières en oncologie (CANO/ACIO)
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology / Association canadienne des infirmières en oncologie (Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology) proudly celebrates Oncology Nursing Day (OND), recognizing the vital contributions of oncology nurses across Canada who provide compassionate, evidence-based cancer care and support patients and families throughout the cancer journey.
Now marking its 23rd annual celebration, Oncology Nursing Day honours the leadership, expertise, and resilience of oncology nurses working in diverse care settings. Oncology nurses play a critical role in advancing practice, navigating increasingly complex cancer treatments, and ensuring high-quality, person-centred care for individuals affected by cancer.
The 2026 Oncology Nursing Day theme, Stronger Together: Advancing Oncology Nursing Through Collaboration and Innovation, highlights the power of connection—across disciplines, teams, and communities—in strengthening oncology nursing practice and improving patient outcomes. This theme emphasizes how collaboration and innovation drive progress in cancer care, support professional growth, and enable oncology nurses to respond to the evolving needs of patients and
families.
Oncology Nursing Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the collective impact of oncology nurses and to reaffirm a shared commitment to working together to advance excellence in oncology nursing across Canada.
CANO/ACIO invites oncology nurses, healthcare organizations, and partners nationwide to join in celebrating Oncology Nursing Day. Resources to support local recognition activities are available through the CANO/ACIO Oncology Nursing Day Help Guide, which includes ideas for workplace celebrations, promotional materials, and downloadable posters. CANO/ACIO Head Office is also available to provide additional support.
To help spread awareness on social media, participants are encouraged to use #OND2026 and tag @CANO/ACIO. Additional promotional resources can be found at: https://www.cano-acio.ca/page/Promote
